So, I already had in mind of creating like a fenced area for them to go into that I would lay down potty pads that would fit in there exactly, so there was no missing and getting on the hardwood floor and ruining them.
But before I purchased this playpen, I came across the product “sprinkle and sweep” just randomly online, which I highly recommend to anyone because it is so awesome and I wish I would’ve found it sooner unlike this playpen, which I’ve been looking at from time to time and going back to it, and thinking about getting it, but then not cause I have this thing that I do always when I buy some thing off of Amazon. For example, when I was looking for this playpen, I created a list called “dog playpen” and look through Amazon at bunch of other similar types of play pens with the door and then I will compare all the ones that I picked out with one another and also use Fakespot just to make sure. So sometimes when I have the idea and want in need of getting a particular thing, it ends up, taking me forever and a lot of the times I just get really frustrated and unsure and then give up and then finally forget about it, lol. (I mean everyone knows, you just never know when you get some thing off of Amazon, so I have that habit of doing that with everything that I buy because I’m just trying to make sure that I’m getting the perfect right item that isn’t going to be made of crap. But, oh my God I am literally going through this realization as I’m writing this review but I guess in the past when I wasn’t happy with some thing that I purchased from Amazon and I never had a problem returning it or getting a refund, so I don’t know why I trouble myself, and go through all of that, when I should just pick out what seems to be what I’m looking for and if I’m not happy with it, I know Amazon will take care of that as an I can return or get a refund or get a new one sent to me or whatever. Because just recently I just had my package stolen from me and I had no idea that Amazon will ship you a new one if your package gets stolen so I guess that’s an fyi for ppl out there that had no idea about that because I didn’t.)
But, yes, back to my review…. lol.
I was going back-and-forth between this model, and the other one that’s cheaper that and looks like it’s made out of like chunkier plastic, like the fence panels are thicker and chunkier unlike this one that looks more polished and just overall not as I guess “cheap”looking, lol.
And honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this playpen. I freaking love it, it was easy to put together, so easy by the way. I think I’ve read some reviews complaining about the assembly part and I think those are just people that really don’t get around to using tools or putting things together much, lol, so honestly, just ignore those reviews, haha.
For people that are wondering what potty pads I’m using inside it’s the Amazon brand, I’m pretty sure the giant size and it fits great, I have to use two pads obviously, but it’s the perfect size because I wanted it to be big enough that it would come up a little bit and make a border like it looks like in the picture because male dogs usually lift their legs and if they happen to go against one of the panels and pee then it would definitely get on the hardwood floor (like it did the other day, but that was my fault because I forgot to change the pad and you know how dogs usually will avoid stepping on potty pads that have been used up so gizmo ended up peeing halfway in and halfway out where the door is and getting a little bit of pee out onto the hardwood floor but like I said, that was a one time occurrence and it was my fault completely because I forgot to change the pad to a fresh new one when it’s time.)
So, yeah, anyone looking for a playpen with a door in this particular size, then definitely go ahead and get this one for sure because it’s awesome and it works great. (^_^)

For the pros, the crate provides a perfect amount of space for her potty pad (small Iris potty pad holder), water dish, bedding, and toys. The plastic is thick and sturdy, and the spacing of the bars is not so far apart we worried about her getting stuck between the bars somehow. We have both the click/snap style and pole assembly style. Both are very easy to put together and remove. I prefer the pole assembly style so if there’s a mess, you can just slide out two poles, remove the front panel, then climb in to wipe everything out (the shape collapses a bit), then quickly put everything back together. I appreciate that the latches for the door can be tightened for extra “escape” proofing.
We followed suggestions for the X support and had no issues with collapse. We also purchased a corrugated plastic sheet (“Coroplast”) from Lowe’s about $20 for 4’ by 8’ sheet (we have another Iris upstairs in our bedroom) and made a low-sided tray for the bottom (search on-line for making Guinea pig cages from Coroplast and you will see how to work with the material—it is easy with a utility knife, metal ruler, and waterproof tape).
The only con, which has to do with our puppy and not the product (hence 5 stars) is that our 5.5 lbs mini-Doxie who stands not even 8” high learned to scale the sides and climb out at 13 weeks old. I would not have believed it possible. I don’t have a picture of her escaping on the puppy cam, only her climbing. She is white so it is hard to see but she has all paws on the sides and her nose through the top. She escaped twice in the space of a few hours and so we implemented the second great idea from the reviews (lattice fence from Lowe’s). No more escaping.
I would buy this product again. I’m not sure how much longer we’ll use it, since we’ll move on to crate training as soon as she is old enough, but this has been extremely useful to us in this stage. Also, this pen looks great and isn’t an eyesore in your living room. Our puppy doesn’t mind going in it.
Hope this helps some folks.
Update: Not even 16 weeks, and the puppy has perfected her climbing skills ... found she was poking her head from the top through the lattice and quickly realized this could be a really bad situation if she got stuck. So ... I zip tied wire grids (a la wire grid storage cube panels) under the lattice, then zip tied everything down. This seems to have solved our problem with our Houdini puppy... for now. The pen itself is still very workable for us.
