When you bring home a new puppy, your first thoughts would be to register him with the AKC to get all those juicy perks.

If you’re here, you’re probably asking yourself: how to register a blue French Bulldog with AKC?

Registering a Blue French Bulldog with the AKC doesn’t differ from any other breed.

Use the registration number provided by your breeder, then fill in the blanks with the dog’s information that is also provided by the breeder.

The Breeder should have already submitted the applications for your Frenchie before you even pick them up.

The confusion about why registering blue Frenchies is possible comes from the fact that they’re not eligible to participate in events.

However, registration is possible just like any other dog breed.

Are Blue French Bulldogs Recognized By the AKC?

Blue French Bulldog Puppy looking up

Blue French Bulldogs are recognized by the AKC. However, they’re not considered show dogs because of how susceptible they’re to health problems.

That blue color is rare and difficult to get. Breeders have to resort to inbreeding to maximize their chances of getting that blue color.

Inbreeding between close relatives increases the chances of bad genes coming together.

Just like humans where marriage between relatives increases the risk of physical problems.

Inbreeding between dogs increases the risk of health issues.

This is why the AKC doesn’t consider Blue Frenchies as show dogs.

Their health problems usually affect their health and performance in such shows.

However, since they’re still recognized by the AKC; you can still register your blue Frenchie just like any other dog.

AKC Registration Requirements

The requirements to register your blue French Bulldog don’t differ from the requirements of other dogs.

List of Requirements

  • Breed of the dog
  • Registration name
  • Registration number
  • Litter number
  • Gender
  • Color
  • Any distinct markings on the dog
  • Date of birth of the dog

Your breeder should be able to provide you with all of this information.

Additionally, they should give your dog’s registered name, the name of the person they purchased the dog from, and their address.

Please note that you have to provide all of this information for your dog to be registered correctly.

AKC Registration Cost

To register your Blue Frenchie (or any other dog), you need to pay a fee based on the type of package you select.

There’s also a late fee that you pay after registration; $35 over 12 months or $65 over 24 months.

Basic Registration

Basic registration earns you an official AKC registration certificate.

It costs you $37.99. This includes the paper application fees as well.

If you decide to do the basic registration online, it will cost you $33.

Keep in mind that a blue Frenchie won’t be allowed to participate in shows and events because of possible health issues.

Silver Package

The silver package offers everything you can get with basic registration + a three-generation pedigree certified by the AKC.

The silver package will cost you $53.99.

That means you get to trace three generations of your dog’s ancestry for an extra $16 fee.

The online silver package costs $45.99.

Gold Package

In the gold package; you get the official AKC certificate as well as all the benefits of the silver package.

You also get a subscription to the AKC family dog magazine, as well as the AKC dog care and training DVD.

Do Registered French Bulldogs Cost More?

Blue French Bulldog looking

French Bulldogs are already pricey, costing anywhere between $1,500 and $2,000. A blue Frenchie can cost up to $2,500.

A blue Frenchie with a documented pedigree can cost over $3,500.

These prices are mostly for puppies.

Adult French Bulldogs will cost you a lot less even if they’re a rare color.

The reason is the lower demand.

Documented adult Frenchies could cost anywhere between $2000 – $3000.

Are Registered Blue French Bulldogs Worth The price?

It’s hard to say that these prices are a good bargain.

Registered Frenchies aren’t considered any healthier than unregistered ones.

The AKC doesn’t prohibit inbreeding.

Frenchies already tend to have many health issues.

Inbreeding adds to those bad odds.

A Frenchie with specific features has a high chance of being inbred.

Since this isn’t an issue with the AKC, there’s no guarantee that a registered Frenchie is healthier than an unregistered one.

For example, a registered blue Frenchie could be worth thousands, and still have health issues like hip dysplasia.

Should You Register Your Blue French Bulldog With the AKC?

So, your blue Frenchie isn’t qualified for those dog sports. Is it still worth it to register him with the AKC?

The answer is definitely. Here’s why:

  • AKC provides you with all the information and training you need to take care of your pup in an optimum way.
  • You could get an AKC collar that provides live tracking of your Frenchie around the clock. This is especially helpful if your dog gets lost. This optional subscription is known as AKC Reunite.
  • A 30 day trial of AKC pet insurance.
  • You could track your dog’s ancestry for up to three generations.

That’s All

So, how to register a blue French Bulldog? Just like you register any other dog.

Get all the necessary information from the breeder, fill in the application, and follow the steps.

You could also register online for a faster, easier, and slightly cheaper process.

Just keep in mind that a blue Frenchie won’t be allowed to participate in dog sports and events.

This is out of concern for their health as the AKC doesn’t want to alleviate any existing medical condition.

Nevertheless, your Frenchie would still get all the benefits from his AKC registration just like any other dog.
