Dachshund Rescues in Texas (List Updated for 2023)

If you’re looking to find a Dachshund Rescue in Texas you’re in the right place.

Before you check the rescue centers below, please make sure you’re aware of how big a responsibility is to foster or adopt a dog, particularly Labradors.

You need to know they may have pre-existing medical conditions and may need to be followed by a vet periodically.

You should also be aware that animal cruelty is a punishable crime.

If you plan to rescue a Dachshund, you should also know about they use their paws a lot, which makes them even more adorable.

DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission

Dachshund Rescue, Education, and Adoption Mission (DREAM) is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) organization committed to rescuing abandoned dachshunds and seeking new homes for dachshunds whose owners can no longer care for them.

Their dedicated volunteers collaborate with local vets to offer their dachshunds quality medical care and loving foster homes until they are placed into carefully screened, permanent homes.

DREAM also functions as a community resource, providing information on ethical pet ownership, the significance of spay/neuter, annual vaccinations, heartworm prevention, positive behavior training, exercise, and healthy nutrition.

Dusty Puddles Dachshund Rescue

Dusty Puddles Dachshund Rescue (DPDR) is a 501(c3) breed-specific Texas non-profit dachshund rescue that was founded in June of 2005.

Their ultimate goal is to save as many dachshunds as possible.

They do everything they can to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome as many little furry friends as possible.

DPDR is always looking for volunteers to assist them at their location, on-site at various adoption events, and in relocating their dachshunds that are ready for adoption.

The Promised Land Dachshund Sanctuary

The Promised Land Dachshund Sanctuary (PLDS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on senior and special-needs rescue.

In July of 2001, this charity began rescuing aging and special-needs dachshunds.

Over the past fifteen years, PLDS has rescued over 250 dogs and placed over 150 into permanent homes.

At the moment, the sanctuary is home to 31 dogs.

Dachshund Rescue of Houston

Dachshund Rescue of Houston (DRoH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the heart of Texas dedicated to the health, welfare, and happiness of dachshunds.

They are based in Central and South Central Texas and have volunteers throughout the state.

Since its inception in 2003, DRoH has rescued, rehabilitated, and placed between 100 and 200 dachshunds each year.

They work hard to locate the best home for each dog’s unique personality and needs, ensuring that the placement is permanent and that both the dogs and the people that adopt them are happy.

Dachshund Lovers of Texas Rescue

Dachshund Lovers of Texas Rescue (DLTR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, foster-based, no-kill dachshund rescue organization located in Dallas, Texas.

Once accepted into their program, the dogs are cared for in foster homes until they find a suitable forever home.

DLTR believes that assisting animals benefits people and that no life is too valuable to waste when a little love can save it.

This group believes that a strong, loving bond between the owner and the pet helps those with special needs and the elderly (both people and canines).

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas (DDRTX) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to the health, welfare, and happiness of dachshunds.

Central Texas Dachshund Rescue

Central Texas Dachshund Rescue

CTDR (Central Texas Dachshund Rescue) was established in September of 2000.

Since then, its membership has increased year after year, allowing more foster families and volunteers to help dachshund owners find loving, forever homes for their dogs.

Despite their name, they are no longer limited to Central Texas and have members and volunteers from around the state.

The majority of CTDR dogs come from Texas animal shelters where they are about to be euthanized.

If a suitable foster home is available, this rescue will accept animals from the wider population.
